THE STUDIO
What Squarespell is
Squarespell builds and sells three things for the Squarespace platform: plugins that add functionality Squarespace doesn't ship natively, templates built on Fluid Engine for Squarespace 7.1, and done-for-you website design for businesses that would rather hand the whole thing over.
Alongside those we publish free code snippets, written guides, and two free tools a site auditor and Squarespell Quiz, a quiz builder that runs as a separate product.
Plugins are sold at a one-time price rather than a subscription, and install by pasting two snippets into Squarespace's code injection areas. No developer required, no ongoing license fee, no plugin that stops working the month you stop paying.

HOW WE WORK
Three roles, one pipeline
Most Squarespace businesses are one person doing everything, or an agency where the person who sells the work isn't the person who does it. We're a third shape: three specialists, each handing off to the next, with nobody in between. It's why a plugin arrives designed, documented and findable rather than just functional.
STEP 01
Design decides what it should be
Every plugin and template starts as an interface problem, not a code problem. What should this look like on a real site, on a phone, against someone else's brand colors? That question gets answered before anything is written.
STEP 02
Development builds and tests it
The build has to survive contact with Squarespace itself a platform that changes underneath you without notice. Code is written to be resilient to that, then retested against releases rather than shipped and forgotten.
STEP 02
Search makes it findable
A plugin nobody can find solves nothing. Every product ships with the documentation, structured data and written guide that lets someone with the problem actually locate the solution in Google and in AI answer engines.
DEVELOPMENT
MUHAMMAD HUSSNAIN
FOUNDER & LEAD DEVELOPER
“A plugin isn't a download. It's a promise that someone will still be maintaining it in two years, on a platform that changes without telling you.”
Muhammad founded Squarespell in 2024 and writes the code behind every plugin in the store. That includes the mega menu system, the product filter, the dark mode toggle, the language switcher, and the carousel and layout plugins that make up most of the catalogue.
He's a developer who runs a company rather than a founder who commissions developers which matters mostly when something breaks. Support questions about plugin behaviour go to the person who wrote the behaviour, and fixes don't wait on a contractor's availability.
FOUNDER BACKGROUND: I started my career in graphic design and later worked in Dubai, where I designed websites and began working deeply with Squarespace. After seeing how much could be improved for designers and businesses building on the platform, I started Squarespell to create premium Squarespace plugins, templates, and tools based on real-world client experience.

“A template has to survive someone else's photography, someone else's copy length, and someone else's brand colours. That's the actual design problem.”
designs the Squarespell template line Squarespace 7.1 templates built on Fluid Engine and the interface of every plugin we ship. Plugins are user interface as much as they are code: a mega menu that opens badly is a broken mega menu, however clean the JavaScript is.
The same work carries into client projects, where the job is usually translating an existing brand into Squarespace without flattening it. Templates are designed to be customized, which means designing for the version of the site that has real content in it rather than the version in the demo.

SEARCH & GROWTH
Shahzaib Nadeem
SEARCH & GROWTH | SEO, AEO, GEO
“Ranking and being cited are now two different jobs. A page can win position one and still lose the answer.”
Shahzaib is responsible for whether anyone finds any of this. That covers traditional search keyword and intent research, on-page structure, internal linking, technical SEO, structured data and the newer problem of answer engines: making sure that when someone asks ChatGPT, Perplexity, Claude or Google's AI Mode how to solve a Squarespace problem, the answer is accurate and attributable.
The two disciplines overlap but aren't the same. Classic SEO optimizes for a click. Answer engine optimization is about entity clarity, corroboration across independent sources, and writing claims specific enough to be worth quoting. Both feed the same editorial calendar behind our 41 published guides.

THE MAINTENANCE PROBLEM
What happens when Squarespace changes something
This is the question nobody selling Squarespace plugins answers on their about page, and it's the one that actually matters. Squarespace updates its platform on its own schedule, without notice to third-party developers. Code that worked in March can break in April.
A plugin business is therefore not really a shop. It's a maintenance commitment with a shop attached. The honest version of that is naming who holds the commitment, and what it consists of.
Muhammad Hussnain holds it. Here is what it means in practice.
VERSION TESTING
Plugins are retested against Squarespace releases.

COMMON QUESTIONS
Questions people actually ask us
Including the three that competitors leave out: what happens when the platform changes, how small we really are, and what becomes of your site if we're not here.
-
Muhammad Hussnain, Squarespell's founder and lead developer, writes and maintains the code for all 28 plugins in the store. They're built in-house for Squarespace 7.1 and 7.0 rather than licensed or resold from another developer.
-
Squarespace changes its platform without notifying third-party developers, so plugins are retested against releases and updated when a change breaks something.
-
Qasva Qadir designs the Squarespell original line Squarespace 7.1 templates built on Fluid Engine. The wider catalogue also carries curated collections designed by other studios, which are labelled with their designer on the product page.
-
Yes. Custom development is part of our website design service, and we also take standalone custom code briefs. Send the problem rather than the proposed solution often there's a simpler answer than the one people arrive with.
-
Three people: development, search, and design. Small on purpose. It means the person who answers your support email is the person who wrote the code, and it's why we build only for Squarespace rather than several platforms at once.
-
Squarespell is registered at International House, 100 Menzies Road, Hastings, United Kingdom, and the team works from Dubai, United Arab Emirates. Enquiries go to info@squarespell.com or +44 7414 265984.
-
No. Squarespell is an independent third-party studio. “Squarespace” is a registered trademark of Squarespace, Inc., and Squarespell is not associated with, endorsed by, or affiliated with Squarespace, Inc.
-
No. Each plugin installs by pasting two snippets into Squarespace one in the site's code injection area, one where the feature should appear. Written instructions come with every purchase. No developer and no third-party app connection is required.
-
Plugins are built primarily for 7.1 and most also work on 7.0. Compatibility is stated on each product page, and a few plugins have additional requirements Smart Filter Pro, for instance, needs a Squarespace Business plan or above because it depends on store functionality.
-
Yes, it's a distinct role rather than an add-on. Shahzaib leads search across our own site and client projects, covering technical SEO, structured data, content strategy, and optimization for AI answer engines alongside traditional search.
-
This depends on whether a given plugin's code runs entirely inside your own Squarespace site or loads a script from ours, and the answer should state which. See the note in section 08.
-
Because maintaining plugins against a platform that changes without notice takes constant attention, and that attention doesn't divide well. Specializing in one platform is what makes the version-testing commitment realistic rather than aspirational.
Build it yourself
