Gorgias: Helpdesk and AI Agent for Ecommerce Support

A support helpdesk built for ecommerce that pulls email, chat, SMS and social into one inbox beside the customer's order history, and is priced by ticket rather than by agent.

  • Priced by ticket, not by agent. Adding a seasonal helper does not add a seat fee. A busy month does cost more — the meter is support volume rather than headcount.
  • The order is in the ticket. Support for ecommerce is mostly "where is it" and "can I change it". Gorgias puts the order beside the message so the answer does not need a second tab.
  • An AI Agent that closes tickets. Sold as an add-on with its own allowance and its own overage — $1.50 per automated interaction past the limit.
  • Starts at $40 a month. That covers 50 tickets and 30 automated interactions, billed monthly only. Volume beyond that is where the real pricing lives.

Overview

A helpdesk that knows what someone ordered

Ecommerce support is not general support. The overwhelming majority of it is a small set of questions about a specific order — where is it, can I change the size, can I cancel, it arrived broken — and answering any of them means having the order in front of you. A general helpdesk makes that a second browser tab and a copy-pasted order number.

Gorgias puts the store data beside the conversation instead. Email, live chat, SMS, voice and social messages arrive in one inbox, and the customer's order history sits next to the reply box, so the answer and the evidence for it are in the same place.

The second design decision is the pricing. Gorgias meters tickets rather than seats, which inverts the usual calculation: hiring a part-time agent for the Christmas rush costs nothing extra, and a quiet January is cheap. What costs money is the volume of support itself.

What it costs

Four plans, and two meters on each

The plan buys an allowance of tickets and automated interactions. Past that allowance both are metered, and the add-ons are priced separately again — so the list price is a starting point rather than a bill.

Plan Monthly Annual Included
Starter $40 Monthly only 50 tickets, 30 automated interactions
Basic $90 $77/mo ($924/yr) 300 tickets, 30 automated interactions
Pro $550 $471/mo Higher ticket volume
Advanced $1,430 $1,227/mo ($14,724/yr) Highest ticket volume

On top of the plan, Helpdesk and AI Agent are metered add-ons. On Starter that is $10/mo for Helpdesk and $30/mo for AI Agent; on Basic, $50/mo and $27/mo. Past either allowance you pay $0.40 per ticket and $1.50 per automated interaction.

Read those overage rates before choosing a plan. At $0.40 a ticket, 200 tickets over the Starter allowance costs more than the plan itself.

The trade

Per ticket versus per agent

Most helpdesks charge per seat, which quietly discourages the thing support teams most need at peak: more hands. Gorgias charges per ticket, which removes that friction and introduces a different one.

  • Seasonal and part-time agents cost nothing extra, so staffing a busy fortnight is a scheduling decision rather than a licensing one.
  • A support-heavy month costs more even if the team did not grow — the meter follows demand, not headcount.
  • Reducing ticket volume, through better product pages or an AI Agent that closes routine questions, directly reduces the bill.
  • If your volume is steady and your team is small and permanent, per-seat pricing elsewhere may simply be cheaper. This is a shape, not a saving.

Before you book

Everything else about Gorgias

For anything about your own volume or a quote, ask Gorgias — their pricing page

Where does the button on this page go?

To a demo booking. Gorgias' referral link resolves to a page where you arrange a call with their team rather than to a signup form or a pricing table, which is why the button says "Book a Gorgias demo" rather than promising a trial.

If you would rather look around first, the pricing figures on this page come from their public pricing page and you can read it without talking to anyone.

What does it cost?

Starter is $40/mo with 50 tickets and 30 automated interactions, billed monthly only. Basic is $90/mo, or $77/mo billed annually at $924/yr, with 300 tickets. Pro is $550/mo, or $471/mo annually. Advanced is $1,430/mo, or $1,227/mo annually at $14,724/yr. Helpdesk and AI Agent are metered add-ons on top.

Is it really not priced per agent?

Correct — the meter is tickets and automated interactions, not seats. Adding a part-time agent for a busy period does not add a licence fee. The cost follows how much support you are doing.

What happens if I go over the ticket allowance?

You pay $0.40 per additional ticket, and $1.50 per additional automated interaction. Those rates are the part of the pricing most worth modelling against your own volume before committing, because they can exceed the plan fee.

What is the AI Agent?

An add-on that resolves routine tickets without a human replying. It has its own monthly fee and its own allowance of automated interactions — $30/mo on Starter, $27/mo on Basic — and its own overage rate of $1.50 beyond the allowance.

Which channels does it cover?

Email, live chat, SMS, voice and social messaging arrive in the same inbox, with the customer's order history shown alongside.

Does it work if I am not on Shopify?

Gorgias is built around ecommerce and Shopify is its primary platform — the Starter plan is described as being for smaller brands on one platform. If you are not selling products, this is the wrong tool regardless of platform.

Is there a free trial?

Their pricing page offers a free trial on the plans, and states no credit card is required on Basic. The referral link on this page goes to a demo booking rather than to that trial, so use their pricing page directly if self-serve is what you want.

Has Squarespell used it?

No. We have not run a support desk on Gorgias. Everything here is read from their own pricing page, and this listing carries no verdict on how it performs in practice.

Does Squarespell earn anything?

Yes — this listing links through a PartnerStack referral URL, disclosed on the button. Commission cannot influence ranking: the recommendation score cannot read any commercial field, and that is enforced by a test.

Ready when you are

Worth it when the shared inbox stops coping

Ticket-based pricing suits stores with uneven support volume and part-time help. Model the $0.40 per-ticket overage against a real month before you pick a plan — that number, not the headline, is what you will actually pay.
